Malaysia Airlines Selects Akamai to Provide Faster Web Experience

Leading to 30% Growth in Online Bookings

Akamai Technologies has announced that Malaysia Airlines has selected Akamai to power its main website, www.malaysiaairlines.com, and the airline’s booking engine to provide customers with a faster website experience. Akamai’s Web Application Accelerator solution has enabled Malaysia Airlines to improve its website performance by more than 50% and increase online bookings by more than 30%.

“We are delighted to work with Akamai as part of our Internet enhancement strategy,” said Dr Amin Khan, Senior General Manager of Network and Revenue Management at Malaysia Airlines. “We have noticed a significant performance improvement on our website since being on the Akamai platform, which combined with our competitive promotions, has led to an increase of 30% in online bookings. Improved website and booking engine performance are key business benefits we are quickly realizing, and this is enhancing our competitive advantage.”

“Akamai’s market leading experience with global airlines will prove critical in allowing Malaysia Airlines to further build out their brand reputation and equity in the aviation industry by accelerating the increasingly dynamic content on their site for the highest quality experience their users can receive,” said Stuart Spiteri, Managing Director, Asia Pacific at Akamai.

Akamai’s Web Application Accelerator solution delivers website performance up to five times faster than the origin Web infrastructure and handles the specific requirements of dynamically-generated content — without a costly hardware build out. It provides customers with a globally-distributed platform of more than 48,000 secure servers equipped with specialized software which is deployed in 70 countries.
